Age of Steam Junior variant

Post by Frouvne »

Age of Steam Junior – (A variant for younger players) by James Cheevers

This is a variant aimed toward those Age of Steam players who have children that aren’t quite ready for the complexities of the full game but who want to play Daddy’s train game.

Setup

There is a special game board to go with these new rules. If possible use that, if not, no player tokens are placed on the Shares Issued part of the original board.

The game should be set up as normal except there is no cash issued to players

The game will last for the following number of turns ;

2 players - 10 turns
3 players - 9 turns
4 players - 8 turns
5 players - 7 turns
6 players - 6 turns

Starting player order is determined by order of age. The youngest player is first and the oldest player is last.

Turn Sequence

1. Select Actions – In player order each player selects an action (as there is no auction phase, Turn Order cannot be chosen). The action Locomotive works as normal.

2. Build Track – In player order each player can place up to three track tiles on the map. (The player that chose the action Engineer can place an extra tile). If a player wishes to

a. Place a complex tile
b. Replace an existing tile
c. Place a tile in a hex with a lake, mountain or town

This will cost the player one of their tiles.

Players place tokens to show their links as normal.

The actions First Build & Urbanisation work as normal.

3. Move Goods – This works as in the main game. The action First Move works as normal.

4. Goods Growth – This works as in the main game. The action Production works as normal.

5. End of Turn – Advance the turn marker and place the first player token at the end of the player order track.

The player at the end of the game with the highest income is winner.
