LAST MINUTE SCOOP: Mr. Jack strikes again at the Olympic Games
An anonymous correspondent has revealed that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is investigating athletes suspected of infringing the Olympic Charter while in Beijing.
Each night since August 8, an unknown athlete has posted a blog on China’s human rights violations and its treatment of Tibet. Mr. Jack, as he is known to the international press and bloggers around the world, has decided to use the unprecedented media spotlight that is on Beijing now to send out these political messages. But in so doing, he or she has contravened the Olympic Charter, which forbids athletes from making political statements while at the Games.
The IOC, which is trying to uncover the identity of the mysterious Mr. Jack, suspects it is one of seven athletes and one trainer, all of whom are staying in the athlete’s village.

Somehow, Mr. Jack (as the media have nicknamed him) has infiltrated this group of eight athletes and is taking full advantage of the media spotlight focused on the Beijing Olympics

Olympic torch bearer
Tom was deeply honoured to be chosen as the final bearer of the Olympic torch for the opening of the 2008 Games—especially as he is not an athlete.
The powers that be decided to bend the rules in order to pay tribute to Tom’s late father, the world’s top Olympic gold medallist, who died just a few days before the opening ceremonies.
A champion curler, Tom’s father took the gold at the 1948 Olympics (on his 18th birthday) and again in 1952, 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002 and finally 2006, at age 76.
